The9.18HistoricalMuseumislocatedonthesitewherethegroundbreakingSeptember18thIncident(alsoknownastheMukdenIncidentorManchuriaIncident)brokeoutonSept18,1931andistheonlymuseumanywhereintheworldhavingMukdenIncident-themedexhibits.
Themuseumwasfoundedin1991andcovers35,000squaremeters.Itfocusesonthecollection,exhibitionandstudyofculturalheritageandhistoricaldataanditemsrelatedtotheMukdenIncident.Therearemorethan7,000piecesinthemuseum.
Therichvarietyofculturalrelics,historicalphotosandvariousmoderndisplaysoffersatruthfulaccountoftheJapanesemilitarists’choreographingandstartingtheSeptember18thIncident,aswellasthehistoryofhumiliationtowhichNortheastChinawassubjectedundertheirbrutalcolonialrule.ItvividlyillustratesthehistoricstrugglesofpeopleinNortheastChinatoultimatelyachieveagreatvictoryintheWarofResistanceAgainstJapaneseAggressionon1945,Aug15throughdeterminationandsacrifice,togetherwiththehelpoftheircompatriotsundertheleadershipoftheChineseCommunistParty.
Overthepast20years,the9.18HistoricalMuseumhasreceivedtensofmillionsofvisitors,withannualvisitationsofoveronemillion.IthasbecomeanimportantvenueforChinesepublicpatrioticeducationandmajorcommemorativeactivitiesdedicatedtotheWarofResistanceagainstJapaneseAggression.
Since1999,the“Bell-soundingCeremonyCommemoratingtheSeptember18thIncident”hasbeenheldatthemuseumeverySept18.Duringtheactivity,air-raidsirensaresoundedacrosstheentirecitytogetherwithanalarmbellbeingrung14timestoremindpeopleofthenationalhumiliationandtheSeptember18thIncident.
