2024年11月10日起,和美术馆(HEM)呈现博斯科·索迪(BoscoSodi)迄今为止于亚洲举办的最大规模个展“旷野之外”。展览由和美术馆与艺术家共同策划,展示艺术家涵盖绘画、雕塑及场域特定装置等在内的的百余件作品。展览将索迪的作品置于和美术馆建筑内外,通过地域、空间与作品的互动重新诠释艺术家取材自然旷野,以身体的介入将天然物质升华的创作哲学。

BoscoSodiwasborninMexicoCityin1970andhassincelivedinParis,Barcelona,andJapan.HecurrentlyworksandlivesinNewYorkandOaxaca,Mexico.Soddy'sworksusesawdust,clay,andvolcanicrockasmaterialstoexcavatenaturalenergyfromtheroughnessandprimitivenessofnaturalsubstances.Hislargemonochromesawdustpaintingsandclaysculpturesarecreatedsolelywithhishands,withoutusinganytools.Thebodyincreationthusbecomesaconductorbetweenmaterialandspirit,injectingspiritualcharmintoordinarymatter.Inrecentpractice,artistshavedirectlyglazedvolcanicrocksandclaysculptureswithvividcolorsorpuregold,presentingacolorthatdoesnotexistinnaturetotheheavynaturalmaterials,likethestonetabletsofancientMayacivilization,showingdivinitybeyondtime.
Inaddition,thewabisabiaesthetic,whichadvocatesthebeautyofflaws,hashadaprofoundinfluenceonSodi'screativephilosophy.Therandomnessandtracesleftbytimeinthecreativeprocesshavethereforebecomeanextremelyimportantcomponentofhisworks.Sodi'sclaysculpturesaremostlymadeinhisstudioinOaxaca,Mexico,incollaborationwithlocalcraftsmen.Theyarehandcraftedbymixingsoilwithwaterandsand,andthenfiredinatraditionalwayafternaturaldryinginthesun.Eachsculpturehasauniquetextureandcrevice,andblendswiththesurroundingenvironmentovertime.
受此启发,艺术家将在本次展览中呈现一组于佛山现存最古老的龙窑——南风古灶烧制的场域特定装置。南风古灶龙窑始建于明朝正德年间,是世界上现存年代最为久远,且仍在使用的柴窑之一。该装置由数千件当地粗制陶泥烧制而成的砖块组成。柴烧过程中产生的自然落灰与多变的温度使每件砖块均生成不同的色彩、纹理与釉色。手工技艺与自然材料在此和谐而不失随机的互动正呼应了索迪的创作哲学。
Inspiredbythis,theartistwillpresentasetofsite-specificinstallationsfiredintheNanfengAncientStove,theoldestexistingdragonkilninFoshan,inthisexhibition.TheNanfengAncientKilnwasfirstbuiltduringtheZhengdeperiodoftheMingDynastyandisoneoftheoldestsurvivingandstillinusefirewoodkilnsintheworld.Thedeviceiscomposedofthousandsofbricksfiredfromlocalroughclay.Thenaturalashandvariabletemperaturegeneratedduringthewoodburningprocessresultineachbrickproducingdifferentcolors,textures,andglazes.TheharmoniousyetrandominteractionbetweenmanualcraftsmanshipandnaturalmaterialsechoesSoddy'screativephilosophy.
秋雨淋淋,日光变幻。在远离旷野的和美术馆,索迪的作品被置于安藤忠雄所设计的极简主义建筑空间内外,仿佛一座座无字碑,岿然铭记大地与人类逾越千年的共生。
