Cloudprosandcons
Oneoftheadvantagesofcloudcomputingisgreaterefficiency.Becauseserversaretypicallysharedinthecloudenvironment,theycanrunmultipleprograminstancessimultaneously,leadingtoabetteruseofresources.Inatraditionalenvironment,aservermayrunatonlyfivepercentcapacitymostofthetime.Cloud-computingproviders,typicallyconcernedaboutelectricitycosts,investinenergy-efficientequipmentthatmayhelpcreateagreenercomputingenvironment.
Thecloudisalsotoutedforitsflexibilityandscalability.Whilemostlibrariesdonothavethesamehighpeaksinusagethat,say,anonlineretailermighthaveduringtheholidays,theycantakeadvantageofthesameflexibility.Forinstance,iftheyareimplementingnewsoftwareinthecloud,theycanquicklyaddcomputingresourcesiftheservicesbecomemorepopular,insteadoforderingandinstallingnewservers.Cloudcomputing’sflexibilitymayalsobeusedfortestingupgradesornewservices.Insteadofpurchasingserversfortesting,avirtualservercanbestartedinthecloudandoperatedonlyaslongasneeded.
