A+isfrom90%to100%.Itisreservedforexceptionalworkthatgreatlyexceedscourseexpectations.Inaddition,achievementmustsatisfyalltheconditionsbelow.

Aisfrom85%to89%.Amarkofthisordersuggestsaveryhighlevelofperformanceonallcriteriausedforevaluation.ContributionsdeservinganAaredistinguishedinvirtuallyeveryaspect.Theyshowthattheindividual(orgroup)significantlyshowsinitiative,creativity,insight,andprobinganalysiswhereappropriate.Further,theachievementmustshowcarefulattentiontocourserequirementsasestablishedbytheinstructor.

A–isfrom80%to84%.Itisawardedforgenerallyhighqualityofperformance,noproblemsofanysignificance,andfulfillmentofallcourserequirements.However,theachievementdoesnotdemonstratethelevelofqualitythatisclearlydistinguishedrelativetothatofpeersinclassandinrelatedcourses.

Inassignmentandexamquestionsrequiringwrittenresponses,youmustgivefullexplanationsforyouranswers.Thisdoesnotmeanthatlengthyanswersarerequired.Mostquestionscanbeansweredinseveralsentencesthatarewell-formulatedandto-the-point.A"yes"or"no"answerwithoutanyreasonswillnotreceiveamark.

Toobtainfullmarks,youshouldassumethatthemarkerhasnospecificknowledgeofthesubjectorthequestion,andattempttouseyouranswertoteachthesubjecttothemarker.Forexample,inalawquestion,youshouldtreatthemarkerashavingnolegalbackgroundatall.Asimilarassumptionshouldbemadeforothersubjects,suchasurbanlandeconomicsorstatistics.Forquestionsinvolvingcalculations,youdonotneedtoprovideeverycalculatorstep(unlessthequestionspecificallyasksforthem),butyoushouldgiveenoughexplanationsothatthemarkercanfollowtheprogressiontowardsyourfinalanswer.Thiswillallowthemarkertograntyoupartialmarksforanycorrectintermediatesteps,evenifyourfinalanswerisincorrect.

Youmayalsouseartificialintelligence(AI)or"bots",suchasChatGPT,toassistinresearchinginformationforyourassignmentsandprojects;however,likeanyothersource(e.g.,scientificarticles,Wikipedia,newsarticles,etc.)youmustcitetheuseoftheAIbot.Forexample,ifyouareusingdirectoutputfromtheAIbot,youshouldusequotationmarksandcitethebotthatwasused.Or,ifparaphrasingoutputobtainedfromtheAIbot,youmustcitetheinformationthatisbeingparaphrased.AIbotsareapowerfultoolthatcanaidinyourresearchandlearning,butcanalsobeadetrimenttoyourlearningifAIoutputisusedwithoutapplyingyourknowledgeandunderstandingtotheinformationobtainedfromit.AnyuseofAI-generatedcontentwithoutpropercitationsmaybeconsideredplagiarism.

Agoodstrategytoapproachmultiplechoicequestionsistouseaprocessofdeduction.First,narrowdownyourchoicebyrulingoutanyoptionsyouknowareincorrect.Thenevaluatetheremainingoptionsforwhichyoufeelisthebestanswer.Inallcasestherewillbeonedominantanswerthatiscorrect.Insomecases,youmaybeabletomakeargumentswhyotheroptionscouldconceivablybecorrect,butinthesecasesthecorrectanswerwillbetheonerequiringthefewestimplicitassumptions.

Thefollowingregulationsgoverntheconductofexaminations:

(1)ExaminationsaretobewritteninEnglish.

(2)Candidatesaccessingtheexamonlinebeyondonehourfromtheexamstarttimewillnotbepermitted.

(3)TheanswerstoexamquestionsMUSTberecordedinthespecifiedformatonlineandwithintheallottedtime.Answersrecordedinanyothermannerwillnotbeconsidered.

(4)Studentsmaynotrefertoanyprohibitedmaterials,including,butnotlimitedto:notes,books,calendars,dictionaries,oramortizationtablesandarenottorefertooruseanynotes,books,calendars,dictionaries,oramortizationtablesunlesstheyarepermittedtodosobytheexaminer.

(5)Candidatesmayusecalculatorstoaidincalculations.Calculatorsmaynotbebothprogrammableandalphanumeric.Graphingcalculatorsarealsonotallowed.NoothercalculatorsorcomputerswillbepermittedwithoutthewrittenpermissionoftheDivision.

(6)Electronicdevices,including,butnotlimitedto:digitalandsmartwatches,cameras,digitalcameras,pinholecameras,videocameras,digitalvideocameras,pagers,cellularphones,personaldataassistants,voiceassistance,anylisteningdevice,laptopcomputers,netbooks,tablets,iPads,iPhones,iPods,digitalmusicplayers,penrecorders,anydevicecapableofsendingorreceivingwirelesssignals,andanydevicecapableofcapturingdigitalimagesorrecordingvideowillnotbepermittedduringtheExamination.

(7)Candidatesarenottocommunicatewith,receiveassistancefromanyone.Anysuchcommunicationwillresultinthepenaltiessetoutin3.02(14)

(8)OncetheExaminationhascommenced,candidatesmustremainfullyvisibletotheirwebcamandarenotpermittedtoleaveforanyunauthorizedreasons.Candidatesmayleaveforabriefwashroombreak,providingtheyannouncetheirintentiontotheinvigilatorviathewebcam.Furtherrequirementsforexaminationconditionsarestatedontheonlineexamwebpage.

(11)StudentsshallnotdiscloseordiscussthecontentoftheExaminationwithanyone,andwillnotrecord,disclose,discuss,publish,reproduceortransmitanyExaminationquestionoranswer,includingbutnotlimitedto,questions,answersortopics,inwholeorinpart,inanyformorbyanymeanswhatsoever(orally;inwriting;electronicallythroughavarietyofmeans,including,butnotlimitedto,textmessaging,Facebook,Twitter,emailandblogging;Internet“chatroom",messageboard,forum;orotherwise)atanytime.

(12)Atalltimesandwithoutpriornotice,theRealEstateDivisionretainstherighttoprohibitanyitemsfortheeffectiveadministrationofitsExaminationsandtoensuretheintegrityoftheRealEstateDivision’sExaminationsecuritymeasures.

(13)Studentsdonothaveanyrighttoinspectorreviewtheexaminationquestions,answersoranyExaminationmaterialssubsequenttocompletingtheExamination.

(14)CandidatesfailingtocomplywithanyofRegulations3.02(4)through3.02(10)inclusivemay,atthediscretionoftheDirector,besubjecttopenaltieswhichmayinclude,butarenotlimitedto,anyorallofthefollowing:

(a)invalidationofthestudent’sexam;

(b)afailinggradeormarkofzerointhecourseorexaminationinwhichtheacademicmisconductoccurred;

(c)asuspensionfromtheprogramforaspecifiedperiodoftime,orindefinitely.Studentswillnotreceivecreditforcoursestakenatanotherinstitutionduringasuspension;

(d)areprimand,withletterplacedinstudent'sfile;

(e)providingrestitutioninthecaseofdamageto,orremovalorunauthorizeduseof,property;

(f)anotationonthestudent'spermanentrecordofthepenaltyimposed.

(15)CandidatessubjecttopenaltiesunderRegulation3.02(14)jeopardizetheiropportunitytowritesupplementalexaminationsandtoregisterinfuturecourseswiththeDivision.

(1)ThefinalgradewillbedeterminedassetoutinRegulations2.06(1)through2.06(5).Inordertopassacourse,candidatesmustachieveboth:

(a)aminimumthresholdexaminationgradeof50%;AND

(b)aminimumoverallcoursegradeof60%.

(2)Intheeventastudentdoesnotachieveanexaminationgradeof50%orgreater,theexaminationmarkisawardedasthefinalgrade.

(3)ForthepurposesofRegulation2.06(7),thepassinggradeontheexaminationis60%.

(4)Examinationresultsareavailabletostudents,normallywithinfourtosixweeksofthedatetheexaminationwaswritten.ResultsareavailableontheDivision'swebsite.Noresultswillbeprovidedinpersonorbytelephone.

(5)InaccordancewithRegulation2.03(5),examinationresultswillbewithheldifanyfeesareoutstanding.

(1)CandidatesmayrequestaPostExaminationReviewonlinebypayinganon-refundablefeeof:

(3)Nofinalcoursegradehigherthanaminimumpassinggrade(60%inmostcourses,or70%inBUSI444)isawardedwhereastudentiswritingafinalexaminationforthesecondtime.Thisalsoappliestocourseswithtake-homecasestudyexaminations.

(1)Whereastudenthasfailedonecourseinthecurrentyearoftheprogram,theymaycontinuetheprogramincoursesforwhichthefailedcourseisnotaprerequisite.Thestudentmustrepeatandpassthefailedcoursebeforebeingallowedtotakeanothercourseforwhichthefailedcourseisaprerequisite.

(2)Whereastudentisrepeatingacourseduetofailure,theDivisionmaymakeanycoursemodificationsnecessarytoensureappropriateandoptimallearningintherepeatedcourse.Thismayinclude,butisnotlimitedto,neworrevisedAssignmentsandprojects.

(3)Whereastudentshowsalackofacademicprogressinacourse,theDivisionmayrefusefurtherenrollmentinthatoranycourse,untilsuccessfulcompletionofspecifiedcoursesorprofessionaldevelopmentactivities.Continuedlackofprogressmayleadtoindefinitesuspensionfromtheprogram.

(4)Whereastudenttakingmorethanonecourseinacalendaryearreceivesanaveragegradebelow50%incoursestaken,orfailsasinglecoursemorethanonceoveranytimeperiod,thestudentmaybesuspendedfromtheprogramforoneyear.Uponresumptionofstudies,anysubsequentviolationofthisregulationmayleadtoanindefinitesuspensionfromtheDivision’sprogramsalongwiththerequirementtowithdrawfromtheprogram.StudentsmayapplytotheDirectorforreadmissionafteroneyear;however,readmissionintheseinstancesisnormallynotgranted.StudentsdeniedreadmissionmaysubmitanappealtotheSeniorAssociateDean,Students,SauderSchoolofBusiness.

(3)Ifanapplicantisunabletoprovideproofofhighschoolgraduationorattendanceorcompletionofpost-secondary/universityeducation,theymayapplyforentryundermaturestudentstatus.Thisrequiresatminimum:

(a)Aletterwhichclearlydefinestherationaleforenrollingintheintendedprogram.

(b)ProperlycompletedonlineapplicationformfromtheDivision'swebsite.

(4)Admissionmustbecompletedbeforeastudentiseligibleforregistration.Ifastudentcannotbeadmittedonorbeforetheregistrationdeadline,theDivisionreservestherighttorefuseregistrationinthatterm.

(a)ThestudentmayberequiredtocompleteallAssignmentsandprojectsaccordingtothescheduleofthatcourseandwouldberequiredtopaythefeesspecifiedinRegulations2.06(4)and4.02(2)(c).

(b)IfthestudentchoosestoresubmitAssignmentsorprojects,theywillberequiredtopaythefeesspecifiedinRegulations2.06(4)and4.02(2)(c).

(5)Astudentmaymakeamaximumoftwocoursetransferswithinoneyearofthestartdateoftheiroriginalcourse.

(1)Whereastudentwithdrawsfromtheprogramoracoursewithintheprogram,theymustsubmitanonlineWithdrawalrequest.Uponreceiptofthisrequest,theDivisionshallrefundfeespaidforthecurrentacademicyearoftheprogramlessthefollowingcharges:

(d)a$15.00feeforeachAssignmentsubmittedforanycourseinwhichthestudentwasregisteredwithinthecurrentacademicyearoftheprogramforwhichthedeadlineoutlinedinRegulation4.03(1)(a)hasnotpassed;

(e)a$15.00feeforeachunpaidlateAssignment;

(f)anyroyaltypaymentsmadeasaresultofthestudent'senrollmentinthecourse;AND

(g)inthecaseofprofessionaldevelopmentcourses,thereisnorefunduponwithdrawal.

(2)Notwithstandinganythingcontainedtothecontraryherein,wherethewithdrawalrequestisreceivedbytheDivisionpriortothelastdayofon-timeregistrationforthecurrentterm,theonlychargeleviedwillbea$50administrationfee.

(3)Whereastudentwithdrawsfromtheprogramoracoursewithintheprogram,theiracademictranscriptwilleithernotlistthewithdrawncourse,orassignthewithdrawncoursea"W"(withdrawal)or"F"(fail)subjecttothedeadlinesbelow:

(1)TheCourseRepresentativemay,atanytime,withdrawastudentforcausebymeansofamandatorywithdrawalletteremailedtothestudent'saddressonrecordfor:

(a)failingtocomplywiththeAssignmentduedaterequirementsofRegulation2.02(1);

(b)notattendinganexaminationsittingforwhichtheyarescheduled;

(c)plagiarismorAssignmentcopying,asoutlinedinRegulation2.04(2)(g);OR

(d)notpaying2ndinstalmentforstudentsinBUSI398,497or499;

(e)inadequatelearningprogressionasdefinedinRegulation3.07(4);

(f)otherreasonablegroundsestablishedatthediscretionoftheDirector.

(2)TheCourseRepresentativemay,atanytime,withdrawastudentforcausebymeansofamandatorywithdrawallettermailedtothestudent'slastknownaddress.

(3)Whereastudentismandatorilywithdrawnfromacourse,norefundwillbepermittedandagradeof“Fail”willberecordedforthatcourse.Apercentagegradewillbegivenforworksubmitted.

(1)WhereastudentreceivesaletterpursuanttoRegulation2.04(2)or4.04(1),awrittenappealmaybemadetotheAppealsCommittee.

(2)Appealrequestsmustbe:

(a)inwritingandaccompaniedbyanon-refundableappealfeeof$50;

(b)setoutthereasonforappealingthedecisiononcompassionateormedicalgroundsonly,withmedicalorlegalcertificationofthecircumstancessurroundingtheappeal;AND

(3)AppealsbasedondecisionsmadebytheCentreforAccessibility(CFA):

(a)mustbemadedirectlytotheCFA;

(b)willonlybeconsideredbytheDivisionifbasedonhowtheCFA’saccommodationwasimplemented.Informationregardingastudent’sdisabilityorthebasisfortheaccommodationisnotrequiredinthisappeal.

(3)Allstudentsareexpectedtobehaveashonestandresponsiblemembersoftheacademiccommunity.Failuretofollowtheappropriatepolicies,principles,rulesandguidelinesasoutlinedintheseregulationsmayresultindisciplinaryaction.

(4)Academicmisconductthatissubjecttodisciplinarymeasuresincludes,butisnotlimitedto,engagingin,attemptingtoengagein,orassistingotherstoengageinthefollowing:

(a)Assignmentcopying/plagiarism,asoutlinedinRegulation2.04;OR

(b)examinationcheatingand/ormisconduct,asoutlinedinRegulation3.02;OR

(c)falsifyinganymaterialsubjecttoacademicevaluation;OR

(d)impersonatingacandidateatanexamination,oravailingoneselfoftheresultsofanimpersonation;OR

(e)submittingfalserecordsorinformation,orallyorinwriting,orfailingtoproviderelevantinformationwhenrequested;OR

(f)falsifyingorsubmittingfalsedocuments,transcripts,orotheracademiccredentials;OR

(g)failingtocomplywithanydisciplinarymeasureimposedforacademicmisconduct.

(5)Disciplinarymeasureswhichmaybeimposed,singlyorincombination,foracademicmisconductinclude,butarenotlimitedto:

(a)thepenaltiesoutlinedinRegulations2.04(2)and3.02(11);AND/OR

(b)referraltotheUniversityPresident'sOfficefordisciplinaryaction,includingwithdrawalfromtheUniversity,withthenotation"RequiredtoWithdrawforReasonsofAcademicDishonesty"(orsimilarnotation)placedonthestudent'stranscript.Unethicalbehaviouristakenveryseriously.

(c)ForcasesofacademicmisconductincoursesleadingtoanAICdesignation,theAICmaybeinformedoftheacademicmisconduct.

(6)Whereastudenthascommittedmisconductwhichisnotspecifiedintheseregulations,butwhichisspecifiedintheUniversityofBritishColumbiaCalendar,thestudentmaybesubjecttothepenaltiesstipulatedinRegulation5.02(5)atthediscretionoftheDirector.

NotwithstandinganythingcontainedintheseRegulationstothecontrary,whereastudentallegesthattheyhasbeenunfairlyprejudicedbytheapplicationoftheseRegulations,anapplicationinwritingmaybemadetotheDirectorforrelief.TheDirectormaytakesuchactiononsuchtermsastheDirectorseesfit.

(1)CourserequirementsanddeadlinesforeachProgramareasstatedinthefollowingsections.

(2)Whenastudentisunabletocompleteaprogramduetomedicalreasons,theDivisionmayplacethestudent’sprogramonholduntilsuchtimetheycanprovideassuranceoftheirabilitytosuccessfullycompletetheprogram.

(3)StudentsmustdemonstratecontinuousprogressintheProgram,asadjudgedbytheAdmissionsOfficer.Absenceofdemonstratedcontinuousprogressmayresultinlimitationsorrestrictionsoncourseenrollment,deferralsandtransfers,and/orsuspensionfromtheProgram.

(4)Whereastudentfailsacourseorwishestotaketimeoutfromtheprogram,theymayapplyinwritingtotheAdmissionsOfficertoextendthetimelimitwithinwhichtheProgramrequirementsmustbecompleted,subjecttothemaximumsnoted.
