IbeganvolunteeringatthelibrarywhenIwasinjuniorhigh,anditwasoneofthebestdecisionsIevermade.Atfirst,IwasntsurewhattoexpectorwhatIwouldbedoing,butIquicklyrealizedthattherewereplentyofwaysformetohelpout.Fromshelvingbookstoassistingpatronswithfindingmaterials,therewasalwayssomethingtodo.
OneofthethingsIenjoyedmostaboutvolunteeringatthelibrarywasthechancetointeractwithpeoplefromallwalksoflife.Ihelpedyoungchildrenfindtheirfavoritepicturebooks,assistedhighschoolstudentswithresearchprojects,andevenprovidedtechsupportforolderadultslearningtousecomputers.Eachinteractionwasalearningexperienceforme,andIdevelopedvaluablecommunicationandproblem-solvingskillsalongtheway.
Inadditiontothepersonalbenefits,volunteeringatthelibraryalsoallowedmetomakeapositiveimpactonmycommunity.Byhelpingtokeepthelibraryorganizedandwelcoming,Iplayedasmallpartinpromotingliteracyandeducation.Ialsohadtheopportunitytoparticipateinspecialeventsandprogramsthatbroughtpeopletogetherandfosteredasenseofcommunity.
