TheJournalofNavigationisaninternationaljournalpublishingoriginalworkonthelatestresearchdevelopmentsandhistoricalaspectsofnavigationonland,atseaandintheair;italsoprovidesaforumfornavigators,engineersandacademicstoraisemorecontroversialtopicsfordiscussion.
TheseInstructionsaretobecloselyfollowed,andauthorswillberequiredtodeclarethattheyhavereadandcompliedwiththeminthefinalstageofthesubmissionprocess.FailuretofollowtheInstructionswillresultinthepaperbeingreturned.AuthorsaretopayparticularattentiontothequalityofwrittenEnglish,formattingandtothelengthlimitationssetoutbelow.
1.1.Length.WeinvitebothreviewpapersandoriginalresearchforsubmissiontoTheJournalofNavigation.Whilethelengthofthepapersvariesdependingonthecontentandsubject,theyareonaverage6,000-8,000wordslong.Averagesubmissionpagelengthcanbeupto20pagesincludingFiguresandTables.TheJournalencouragesaccurateandsuccinctwriting.Papersshouldbepresentedsinglecolumn12pointTimesNewRomanwith2·54cmmargins.FiguresandTablesmustallbeclearlylegible.Forsubjectsthatrequiresignificantlyhigherpagecounts,two-partpapersshouldbeconsideredbutthismustbediscussedwiththeEditor-in-Chiefinadvanceofsubmission.The‘Forum’sectionexistsfortheexpressionofopinion,andallowsauthorstosubmitmaterialwhichmightnotbeappropriateforfulllengthpapersbutwhichcontainideasworthyofpublicationanddiscussion(upto2,500words).
1.2.FiguresandTables.AllFiguresshouldbesuppliedinanappropriatesizeandthespecifiedfileformats(seefurtherdetailsinSection4-Figures).FiguresandTablesshouldbeincorporatedintothesubmittedtext,soreviewerscanseethemincontext.SeparateFiguresandTablesmayalsobeuploaded,particularlyifhigh-resolutionimagesareincluded.
1.3Original,UnpublishedMaterial.Contributionsarenormallyreceivedontheunderstandingthattheycompriseoriginal,unpublishedmaterialandarenotbeingsubmittedforpublicationelsewhere.Correspondingauthorswillbeaskedtoconfirmthisandtostatewhetherearlierversions,eventhoseinaless-developedorabbreviatedform(e.g.,conferenceproceedings,websites,magazinesorotherjournalsetc.)havebeenpublished.SuchearlierversionswillnotnecessarilyprecludepublicationinTheJournalbutfulldetailswillberequired.Papersarepeer-reviewedtoensurebothaccuracyandrelevance,andamendmentstothesubmissionmaythusberequiredbeforefinalacceptance.Onacceptance,contributionsaresubjecttoeditorialamendment,butauthorswillreceiveproofsforapprovalbeforepublication.
1.4CapacityLimitations.ThereislimitedcapacitytopublishworkinTheJournal.Itisentirelypossiblethatworkthathasbeenrecommendedforpublicationbyreviewerswillnotbepublishedduetospaceconstraints.EveryeffortwillbemadetopublishallworthyarticlesbuttheEditor-in-Chiefreservesthefinaldecisiononpublication.
2.PRESENTATIONOFMANUSCRIPTS.ManuscriptsshouldconformascloselyaspossibletoTheJournalstyle.Previouslypublishedpapersshouldbeconsultedforguidance.Textistobepresentedinsinglecolumn.InternationalStandardSizeA4paperistobeused.
