《柯林斯英语学习词典》这本词典目前已经出到了第九版，国内的外研社也对词典进行了引进。
对于从来没有使用过英语词典的人来说，柯林斯词典可能是最适合入门的一本词典。它使用英语中最常见的两三千个单词来解释所有的单词和概念，因此只要有中学英语基础就可以用好这本词典。
柯林斯词典最大的特色是采用了“整句释义”的形式，通过一个完整的句子来解释单词的含义和用法，方便初学者理解（虽然这种解释形式有时候会比较啰嗦）。举个例子，词典对于bombard有这样的解释：
Ifyoubombardsomeonewithsomething,youmakethemfaceagreatdealofit.Forexample,ifyoubombardthemwithquestionsorcriticism,youkeepaskingthemalotofquestionsoryoukeepcriticizingthem.
从上面的解释中我们可以了解到，单词的常见搭配是bombardsomeonewithsomething，比如可以说bombardsomebodywithquestions，即“向某人连珠炮似地提问”。
词典给出的例句还显示，可以用bebombardedbysomething这样的结构，比如：I'vebeenbombardedbythepressandtelevisionsinceIcamebackfromNorway.
又比如词典对malaise一词的解释是：
Malaiseisastateinwhichthereissomethingwrongwithasocietyorgroup,forwhichtheredoesnotseemtobeaquickoreasysolution.
通过这样的释义我们能够了解到malaise一般指的是出现社会或者群体中难以解决的问题。

可以看到短文里面出现了astronomers,telescope,comets,asteroids等太空主题中的高频词。这样的专栏在词典中有很多，可以很好地帮助我们拓展词汇量。
