Inmyopinion,therearetworeasonsaccountingforthephenomenon.Foronething,manystudentsthinkthatthemorecertificatestheygetnow,themorechancestheycangetagoodjobinthefuture.Theyaretoldthatthecompaniesorinstitutionsthinkhighlyofthecertificatewheninterviewing.Therefore,theytrytheirbesttogetallkindsofcertificates,eventhoughsomehavenoanyrelationshipwiththeirmajorsorinterests.Foranother,followingothers’choicesisanotherreason.Anumberofstudentsgotopursethecertificatesbecausetheyfindthatmanyclassmatesaroundthemaredoingthatsotheythinkitwouldbesafetofollowothers.
