Howlongwillthereviewingtake
Ifyoudecidetosubmitapaper,itwillfirstundergoafirstevaluationbytheeditor-in-chief,whichistypicallydonewithin2weeksorso.Ifitpassesthisevaluation,itundergoesaregularreviewingprocess,whichwillusuallytake1-3months,sometimesmore.Inanycase,itisveryrarethatapaperisacceptedafterthefirstsubmission,acceptedpapersoftenundergotwoorthreeiterations.

Unfortunatelynot.Journalreviewingisthoroughandtime-consumingprocess,withmanypapersundergoingseveraliterations.Whilewetrytobeasspeedyaspossible,itisnotpossibletogiveanupperlimitonthetimeyourpaperwillneedbeforeitispublished.Thisholdsformostseriousjournalsthough.
CanextendedversionsofconferencepapersbesubmittedHowmuchnewmaterialshouldtheycontain
Yes,wedoacceptextensionsofconferencepapers.Thereisnostrictruleforacceptance,butingeneral,weonlyintendtopublishpapersthatdifferfromconferenceversionsinthattheyprovideamatureandinawayfinalviewontheinvestigatedsubject,withoutthelengthrestrictionsetc.thataconferencepublicationimplies.Thereisnostrictruleonhowmuchnewmaterialapapershouldcontain,butitmustcontainenoughnewmaterialtoprovideasignificantcontributionbeyondtheconferencepaper.Ofcourse,authorsneedtoacknowledgeapreviousconferencepublicationinthesubmittedpaper,aswellasclarifyinwhatthenewsubmissionextendsthepreviouswork.Eventually,thereviewersandeditorswilljudgeonthebasisofprovidedinformationwhetheranewpublicationisjustified.Incaseyouwishtosubmitpartsofpreviouslypublishedmaterial,youneedtoensurethatthereisnocopyrightinfringement.

Yes,wearealwayslookingforinterestingnewtopicsforspecialissues.However,theprocessisveryselectiveandcompetitive.Inparticular,wegenerallydonotpublishpost-workshoporpost-conferencespecialissues.Wewishtohavespecialissuesthathavearelevantandtimelytopicanddeliversubstantialbenefittothecommunityweserve.Wewanttohaveguesteditorswhoupholdthehighstandardsofthisjournal,whichtypicallymeansthatwerequireeditorswithextensivepublicationorreviewingexperiencewithinthedataminingcommunity.

Papersthatgiveanin-depthdescriptionofrecentresearchresultsindataminingandknowledgediscovery.Expandedversionsofpaperswhichhavepreviouslyappearedinconferenceproceedingswillbeconsideredandthisrequestmustbemadeatthetimeofsubmission;theauthorsmustclearlystatetheconferencepublicationandprovideastatementofrevisions/updatesthathavebeenmadetothejournalpaper.
