Theevent,organizedbytheFiberBroadbandAssociationandattendedbyadelegationfromASEP,hadasaspeakertheinstitution'sTelecommunicationsdirector,AlkinSaucedo,whodiscussedthetopic:"Broadbanddeploymentandfiberopticnetworks-afundamentalpillarforreducingthedigitaldivideandconnectingtheunconnected."
Saucedoaddressedtheissueofhowtoacceleratethemodernizationofthesector,illustratingthesituationwithrelevantstatisticsandidentifyingthedifferentmarketecosystems.Atastatisticallevel,hesharedPanama'sresultsregardingthedeploymentofopticalfiber,whichtranslatesintosome40thousandkilometersinstallednationwidebytheconcessionarycompaniesregulatedbyASEP.
Inhispresentation,Saucedodevelopedothertopicsinthefieldoftelecommunications,suchasthechallengesofbroadbandnetworksandtheirrelationshipwithnewtechnologies,includingsatellitesystemsand5Gtechnology.
Panamaisimplementingpilottestsof5Gtechnologythroughmobileserviceoperatorsinthe3.5MHzfrequencyband,enablingthenecessaryspectrumtoeachoperatortocarryouttheirrespectivetests.
InthecaseofPanama,itwasexplainedthatthesatellitenetworksystemisappliedmainlyinthoseruralareaswithdifficultaccess,asaninitiativetoconnecttheunconnected,incompliancewiththepublicpolicyofaccessanduniversalservice.
Duringtheevent,thepanel“RegulationsandStandardsfortheUseofOpticalFiberintheRegion”wasalsoheld,withtheparticipationoftheNationalDeputyDirectorofNetworksofASEP,engineerAlejandroHerrera.
ThediscussionwasattendedbyángelesAyala,deputysecretaryoftheRegionalTechnicalCommissionofTelecommunications(COMTELCA)andFernandoMerchán,researchprofessorattheFacultyofElectricalEngineeringoftheTechnologicalUniversityofPanama(UTP).TheFiberBroadbandAssociationisanorganizationbasedinWashington,UnitedStates,madeupofthecommunityofbroadbandnetworkoperatorsandsuppliersofthetelecommunicationsindustry.
