1.植物分类学与系统发育研究
对当前数据分析存在的问题提出了指导性建议,包括以毛茛族研究为例阐明了单基因预分析的必要性(JSystEvol,2014),提出了一个多基因数据联合分析的流程(SciChinaLifeSci,2014),指出基于系统发育树比较分析有时不能确定不同数据矩阵是否存在真实的冲突(MolPhylogenetEvol,2017),由此建议在系统发育分析时,至少采用两种方法,判定显著冲突标准为MPBS≥70%和PP≥0.95(Taxon,2021)。此外,还对腊叶标本DNA提取易污染的问题提出了针对性解决办法(BotLett,2018)。
2.植物时空格局与区系地理、地球演变研究
以毛茛科人字果属和黄连属为代表性类群,对东亚的生物地理进行了研究,发现了迄今为止在植物界最为古老的中国大陆-日本的隔离分化事件(约22Ma),阐明了海平面变化是制约中国大陆、台湾和日本三地植物交流的关键因素,强调了中国大陆和日本均是台湾植物多样性的资源区(MolPhylogenetEvol,2017b;BMCEvolBiol,2018);利用新建立的青牛胆属探讨了台湾南部恒春半岛植物区系的起源,提出了“恒春半岛植物群包含有一些源自中国大陆的古老成分”的新观点(MolPhylogenetEvol,2017a)。此外,以毛茛科翠雀亚属植物为研究对象,揭示了东亚是地中海旱生植物多样性的主要资源区之一,提出了自晚中新世“从东亚一路向西扩散至整个地中海地区”的迁移路线(Taxon,2017)。
3.植物多样性进化与植被形成研究
以防己科为特征成分探讨了现代热带雨林的起源,提出了“全球热带雨林在约66Ma几乎同时兴起”的新观点(NewPhytol,2012);以蒺藜科为指示成分研究了荒漠植被的起源与分化,发现全球不同大陆荒漠植被在中新世中晚期几乎同时兴起(BMCEvolBiol,2018),揭示该科起源于降水季节性较强的半干旱气候中,其全球多样性分布格局是由水分生态位保守性和物种的快速分化所共同决定的(ProcRSocB,2018)。此外,对紫堇亚科多样化的研究发现,预适应是荒漠植被生物多样性发生快速多样化的重要机制(MolPhylogenetEvol,2023b)。
